This snowshoe tour with Zipfelbob on the Hörnle is an absolute insider tip: Few other tours in the foothills of the Alps already offer such a magnificent panorama during the entire ascent. Across snow-covered open spaces and magical stretches of forest, the view of the Ammergau Alps becomes even more beautiful with every metre of altitude climbed. This panoramic tour is a must for all Alpine lovers!

Our Zipfelbob tour starts at the parking lot of the Hörnlebergbahn. Here, one of our trained guides will welcome you and explain the proper use of snowshoes and poles. The snowshoe tour goes on a moderate incline over open areas past forest sections. The ascent to the Hörnle is very varied through a beautiful mountain landscape with many passages that allow great views towards the valley and the Ammergau Alps.

A little below the mountain peak we reach the Hörnlehütte. It invites you to enjoy regional specialities and the great view in a cosy hut atmosphere. If you would like to end the ascent here, you have the option of stopping off at the hut, which is open all year round.

For the physically stronger, the trail continues to the summit. Over an open slope, the path leads another 100 HM upwards. From here you can enjoy the magnificent 360° panorama. The view of the foothills of the Alps, dotted with its lake landscape, all the way to the Zugspitze, is worth the climb. Now also the summit strikers can whiz to the hut with a stop on the Zipfelbob.

Can I book the appointment first without obligation?

Sure! Please contact us and we will take care of your non-binding reservation until 2 weeks before the date. 

When is a snowshoe tour cancelled?

Lack of snow, snowstorm, too high avalanche danger can be reasons for a cancellation. We inform our participants as soon as it is foreseeable whether the tour can be carried out as planned. Usually it is 4 days before the date.

Do the tickets and vouchers expire if the appointment is cancelled?

No, the tickets and vouchers remain valid. In case of cancellation an alternative date will be arranged.

Am I in a group with my friends?

Yes! As long as you book under the same name, you will be assigned to the same group.

For bookings with different names, feel free to let us know.

How big are the groups? What is the minimum number of participants?

There is a maximum of 12 guests per guide.
If we have several groups for the same time, the guides decide on the spot whether the groups go together or separately.

The minimum number of participants is 6.

What material will be provided and what do I need to take with me?

Provided:

  • 1 pair of snowshoes (size adjustable)
  • 1 pair of sticks (size adjustable)
  • 1 Zipfelbob with fastening strap for the backpack

What do I have to bring myself ?

  • Waterproof and breathable winter clothing (incl. hat, gloves and waterproof, ankle-high mountain boots) 
  • Ski goggles for the Zipfelbob descent
  • optional ski or touring pants with snow skirt or gaiters
  • Food and thermos flask, power bars, etc. for snacks on the way
  • Cash for the Hut 
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • And the most important: drink, at least 1 liter per person

If you come with brand new hiking boots, you can take the blister plasters with you right away 😉

There is a paid car park directly at the meeting point.

Everything is locked in our own car, or can be locked in our vehicle.

Yes, the managed Hörnle Hütte is our tour destination. Please remember to bring cash.

Do I have to print out my ticket?

No. A digital version (smartphone) of the ticket is perfectly sufficient.

    Many thanks for this great tour! The organisation was top and despite moderate weather we had a lot of fun. Our guide Leo and hospitant Theresa were very considerate and brought us to the hut in a good mood. The highlight was of course the downhill run with the Zipfel bob, which we can only recommend 🙂 .
